[헤럴드경제] 13일(현지시간) 밤 프랑스와 독일의 축구경기장에서 자살폭탄 폭발이 세 차례나 있었지만 관객들에게는 알리지 않은 채 프란시스 올랑드 대통령만 은밀히 몸을 피했다는 주장이 나왔다.

‘더 루트(The Root)’지의 전직 편집장인 조엘 드레이퍼스는 미국 위성턴포스트에 한 기고에서 이같이 주장했다.

사건 당일 조일은 부인과 함께 경기를 관람하던 중 경기시작 15분 만에 큰 폭발음이 들렸다고 진술했다. 하지만 8만명이나 되는 관중의 큰 함성소리에 뭍혔고, 조엘 역시 이를 아주 큰 폭죽소리 정도로 여겼다.

그런데 뒤에 알았지만 이 소리는 조엘 부부의 자리에서 6~7단계 아래인 경기장 바깥에서 자살폭탄이 터지는 소리였다. 이후 두 차례의 자살폭탄 폭발이 뒤따랐다.

하지만 경기장에서 관중들에게 안내방송은 없었다. 경기도 계속됐다. 조엘은 “뒤에 알았지만 프란시스 올랑드 프랑스 대통령은 이미 조용히 자리를 빠져나간 뒤였다”고 적었다. 휴대폰으로 인터넷이 연결되지 않았지만 그때까지만 해도 관중 대부분이 자리를 지키고 있어 별일이 아니라고 생각했다.

그런데 부인이 주변에 꽤 많은 사람들이 중간 휴식시간에 자리를 떠난 후 돌아오지 않았다고 귀띔했다. 프랑스가 1대 0으로 앞선 상황이었음에도 경기관전을 중간에 포기한 것이다. 후반전에 들어서야 경기장에서의 폭발 사건과 시내 총격사건 메시지를 받을 수 있었다.

My wife and I were among the thousands at the nearly-full 80,000-seat Stade de France in Paris for the France-Germany game when a loud explosion behind us interrupted the good-natured cheering in the stands around us about 15 minutes into the match. I thought at first that it was a firecracker — a very big one — because it seemed so close. What I had actually heard was a suicide bomber blowing himself up outside the stadium several hundred yards and several levels below our seats. Two more explosions and two more suicides would follow.

There was no announcement to spectators, and the game went on — although, we learned later, French President François Hollande was quietly evacuated. I couldn’t get onto the Internet on my cellphone, and since most people seemed to stay in their seats I decided it wasn’t a big deal. But my wife noticed that a number of people in our section left at halftime and didn’t return, even though the score was only 1-0 in France’s favor. I finally got a text message during the second half mentioning the explosions at the stadium and the shootings in Paris.
