64 local governments listed on Wegive; cumulative donations reach 232,002 transactions
The government's Hometown Love donation program is gaining steady traction on private platforms, helping broaden a culture of giving across the country.
Wegive, a private platform for the Hometown Love donation program, said Monday that its monthly active users, or MAU, reached approximately 2 million in May.
Wegive hit a record 2.44 million MAU in December 2025, then maintained a monthly user base of more than 1 million from March through May this year. In May, the figure climbed back to around 2 million, signaling that interest in Hometown Love donations has held well beyond the year-end peak season.
The platform's business has grown rapidly as well.
Wegive raised 23.5 billion won ($15.6 million) in 2025, a 434% jump from 4.4 billion won ($2.93 million) in 2024. The number of local governments listed on the platform surged 276%, from 17 in 2024 to 64 in 2025, while cumulative donations reached 232,002 transactions.
As private platforms gain momentum, the cycle connecting platform users to tangible regional outcomes is also becoming more firmly established.
When users visit Wegive, they browse regional gift items offered as thank-you returns, review designated donation projects and local stories, and then make their donations. The resulting contributions feed back into local economies through the consumption of those regional gift items.
"What matters is not simply the number of visitors, but the conversion structure that turns users into actual donors and regional consumers," a Wegive official said. "An MAU of 2 million means Wegive has secured a base of users who are genuinely interested in Hometown Love donations. Going forward, we will focus on channeling that base into fundraising results for local governments, consumption of regional gift items, and participation in designated donation projects."
