A sports festival promising laughter and relief from the grind of daily life is coming to Yeongdeungpo-gu.

The district's community sports day, set along the Anyangcheon, will feature experience booths and prize draws, turning the riverside into a celebration open to all residents.

Yeongdeungpo-gu will hold the "Yeongdeungpo-gu Hanmaeum Sports Festival" along the Anyangcheon on Nov. 7.

About 5,000 residents from the district's 18 dong are expected to gather for a day of recreational sports and community unity.

Running under the slogan "Yeongdeungpo runs together — joy is second to none," the festival will open with a ceremony at the inline skating rink beneath Sinjeong Bridge, then spread across sports facilities along the Anyangcheon — including the futsal courts, the gateball courts near Omokgyo and the park golf course. Finals will be held across age groups and disciplines: futsal for teenagers, jokgu for youth, park golf for middle-aged residents, gateball for seniors and shuffleboard for residents with disabilities.

Alongside this, a fun games segment open to all residents will feature oversized balloon ball rolls, beanbag tosses into basketball hoops, a giant baton relay and a cooperative bounce challenge — activities designed to build teamwork and reinforce the festival's spirit of togetherness.

A festival zone where everyone can participate regardless of results will also be set up on the athletics track beneath Sinjeong Bridge. Eleven experience programs will be on offer, including face painting, digital caricatures and tarot card readings, as well as metabolic syndrome screenings and body composition measurements run jointly by the Yeongdeungpo Public Health Center and the district sports association.

Once all competitions conclude, a closing "harmony gathering" will bring residents together — setting aside scores and neighborhood affiliations — to form a large circle on the field and cheer one another on after a day of shared effort. An awards ceremony and prize draw will follow to close out the event.

For more information, residents can visit the "Our District News" board on the Yeongdeungpo-gu website or contact the district's Sports Promotion Division or the nearest community center.

"We hope this Hanmaeum Sports Festival will be a cherished celebration where residents can laugh, have fun with their neighbors and share health and harmony," a district official said. "We will prepare thoroughly so that every resident who attends can enjoy the event safely and joyfully."
