Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-kyun attended the "2027 Seoul World Youth Day MOU Signing Ceremony" Monday afternoon at the policy conference room on the ninth floor of the Mapo-gu District Office, joining the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul in pledging cooperation for the event's successful hosting.

World Youth Day is an international gathering where Catholic youth from around the world come together to share faith and culture and reflect on the values of peace and solidarity.

The signing ceremony was attended by Father Kim Hyeon (Antonio), head of the second district of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, and Father Jang Won-seok (Gabriel), director of the youth ministry, among others.

Under the agreement, Mapo-gu will provide administrative support for the event's operations by drawing on local infrastructure. The district will particularly leverage its religious and cultural assets — including the Han River Pilgrimage Route, the Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine and the Hongdae area — to help participating youth experience Korean culture firsthand.

"I am delighted to join hands with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul for the successful hosting of the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day," District Mayor Yoo said. "Through this agreement, we will communicate closely and provide solid support for the event's preparation and operations." He added that the district would take careful steps to ensure young visitors to Mapo can stay safely and comfortably and create lasting memories.

The 2027 Seoul World Youth Day will begin with diocesan-level events from July 29 to Aug. 2 next year, followed by the main event from Aug. 3 to Aug. 8.
