Service targets subscribers planning to stay abroad for three months or more; available through NHIS website and mobile app
The National Health Insurance Service announced Wednesday that it has expanded its benefit-suspension reporting service online for health insurance subscribers planning to stay abroad for three months or more.
The service was introduced to eliminate the inconvenience of having to visit a local NHIS branch or send a fax to report a suspension of health insurance benefits during an overseas stay.
Subscribers can apply before departure through the NHIS website or mobile app without submitting any additional documents.
"We expect this online service to significantly reduce the administrative burden on people planning to live abroad," an NHIS official said. "We will continue to expand our contactless, digital-based customer services so that people can access the national health insurance services they need regardless of time or place."
Under current law, national health insurance benefits are suspended for subscribers who stay outside the country for three months or more. Depending on the subscriber's type and eligibility, premiums may be waived or excluded from the premium calculation during that period.
