Actor Jung Il-woo has donated to Good Neighbors to support residents and children affected by the floods that swept through Nepal.

Good Neighbors said Wednesday it will use Jung's donation for emergency relief in the hardest-hit areas, including Nuwakot and Gorkha districts.

"I want to offer even a small measure of help to the residents and children who were suddenly struck by this flood," Jung said. "I hope the affected areas recover as quickly as possible and that people can return to their peaceful daily lives."

The donation also earned Jung a place in The Neighbors Club, Good Neighbors' exclusive membership circle for exceptional donors.

The club brings together members who donate 10 million won ($7,300) or more per year and continue to engage in meaningful charitable activities.

Death toll continues to climb

Meanwhile, the total death toll from the massive floods that struck the Himalayan region along the Nepal-China border has surpassed 1,000.

Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said the death toll on the Nepal side had risen to 1,003, Reuters reported Tuesday (local time).

The number of missing has grown to 4,462 in total — 3,916 on the Nepal side, including 590 foreigners, and 546 in China, including 261 foreigners.

Rescue teams have been using helicopters and other aircraft to reach isolated communities cut off by roads and bridges destroyed in the floods and landslides.

Workers are also erecting temporary bridges to repair roads and making every effort to restore power and communications.

Rescue authorities have been particularly focused on locating workers reported missing at several hydropower plants.

Search efforts have been hampered by multiple plants buried under mud. Concerns are also growing that the chances of finding survivors are fading as the disaster enters its second week.

At the Rasuwagadhi hydropower plant, where an estimated 93 people are missing, rescue teams deployed drones and other equipment Tuesday (local time) to conduct a thorough search but concluded their operation without finding any missing persons or bodies.
