The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is collecting opinions from citizens, experts and local governments through Monday to help draft amendments to the Special Act on the Establishment of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.
The effort aims to strengthen the city's autonomous and fiscal powers in line with its status as a special city, while identifying legislative priorities needed to improve residents' daily lives and drive regional development.
Citizens can submit their views through a public comment board linked via a pop-up window on the city's official website.
The amendments will focus on raising the city's profile as a core pillar of balanced national development, improving governance systems to expand autonomy, securing effective administrative and fiscal support from the central government, transferring meaningful authority to the city, and fostering the semiconductor and energy industries.
Submissions and identified priorities will be reviewed by a special act amendment TF comprising relevant city departments, the city council, and the Jeonnam and Gwangju research institutes.
The city also plans to hold an expert forum with participation from the National Assembly Research Service, the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration and the Korea Legislation Research Institute to gather views on the direction of the amendments.
