The National Climate Crisis Response Committee signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday with Amorepacific and Pulmuone Foods at Pulmuone's Suseo headquarters in Seoul to launch the Green Gain Campaign, a public-private initiative aimed at broadening public participation in carbon neutrality.

The agreement is designed to mobilize citizens in the fight against climate change through public-private cooperation and to establish a culture of carbon-neutral practices in daily life.

Under the MOU, the committee will serve as the coordinating hub for corporate-backed public engagement campaigns, while Amorepacific and Pulmuone Foods will continue their ESG management efforts and work with the committee to identify and advance a range of public-private projects, including carbon-neutrality campaigns.

Both companies will also participate in the committee's citizen engagement initiative, the Net Zero Friends project, supporting young people in realizing their carbon-neutrality ideas through task development, evaluation and mentoring.

Amorepacific and Pulmuone Foods had each submitted project proposals for the Net Zero Friends recruitment call — covering the spread of low-carbon consumer culture and the promotion of sustainable beauty practices, as well as raising public awareness of sustainable dietary habits.

"As the record-breaking heat waves and heavy rains in recent months make clear, the climate crisis is already a reality playing out in people's daily lives and across industry and the economy," said Lee Chang-hoon, civilian co-chair of the committee. "Alongside reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting safely to a changing climate requires not just government action but the active participation of citizens and businesses."

Cheon Young-hoon, chief executive of Pulmuone Foods, said the company would "continue meaningful cooperation to raise public awareness of sustainable dietary habits and help spread a carbon-neutral culture that anyone can practice easily in their everyday lives."

Kwon Soon-chul, executive director at Amorepacific, said the company would "pursue a range of collaborative projects to encourage more people to join the movement for low-carbon consumer culture and sustainable beauty practices."
