Eight subsidiaries of Woori Financial Group will provide 60 young participants with hands-on training and mentoring from working professionals in the financial IT sector. The government is backing the initiative through its K-New Deal Academy, a program designed to help companies train the talent they need while supporting young people's entry into the labor market.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor said Tuesday that Im Yeong-mi, director general of employment policy, attended the launch ceremony for Woori Financial Group's K-New Deal Academy program — the "Woori WON Youth IT Academy" — held at Woori Bank's headquarters.

The K-New Deal Academy is a government-supported initiative in which large companies design and run their own job-skills training programs tailored to their specific fields. The core aim is to train young people around the competencies companies actually need on the job, then support them through to employment and entry into the labor market.

Woori Financial Group's Woori WON Youth IT Academy centers on hands-on experience across different financial IT roles. All eight of the group's subsidiaries are taking part, each offering job-specific training, mentoring by current employees, workplace visits and practical exercises. The program aims to deepen participants' understanding of financial IT roles and build their confidence as job seekers.

Sixty young people were selected for the program. The launch ceremony was attended by the trainees, along with Park Je-sung, head of management support at Woori Financial, and Im.

Woori Financial said it plans to continue supporting participants in pursuing careers in financial IT after they complete the program.

"This academy will serve as a solid stepping stone for young people to enter society equipped with financial IT skills," Park said. "We will stay with them beyond graduation so they can stand on their own as financial AI professionals — not just provide training support."

Im said the K-New Deal Academy is "a policy where government and corporate support is added to young people's own efforts, so that everyone grows together." She added: "Just as the K-New Deal Academy's slogan goes, 'Young people grow with companies' — I hope this becomes an opportunity for participants to leap even higher."
