Trail linking Inchang Jugong 2 complex to Dong-gu Sky Park renovation complete
The city of Guri announced Wednesday that it completed renovations on a buffer-green walking trail running from the Inchang Jugong 2 apartment complex to Dong-gu Sky Park on July 1, and that residents have responded positively to the improved walking environment.
The project converted a stretch of buffer-green space — previously an informal dirt path — between the Inchang Jugong 2 complex and the roadside in front of the main gate of the Guri Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market into a proper earthen walking trail. The buffer-green section between the Inchang Jugong 4 complex and the Seoul Metropolitan Ring Expressway was upgraded by dividing the existing path into a barefoot trail and a general walking path, giving users more options and greater convenience.
Before breaking ground, the city held a public information session to gather residents' input, aiming to preserve the buffer-green zone's core environmental function while providing a comfortable rest and walking space. The city secured Gyeonggi Province funding to keep the project on track.
During construction, the city actively incorporated residents' suggestions, including widening the trail, preserving existing trees and installing retaining structures, resulting in a rest and walking space accessible to all local residents.
The newly built barefoot trail features a pressure-point path made with zeolite beads. A variety of trees and flowering plants were added along the trail to break up the monotony and create a walking environment that is pleasant for both the eyes and the feet.
"This project transformed sections that had no trail at all, or trails too narrow to use comfortably, into green spaces that any resident can enjoy safely and conveniently in their daily lives," Guri Mayor Shin Dong-hwa said. "We will consistently maintain and manage these spaces so that residents can feel close to nature and enjoy healthy leisure time right in their neighborhoods, and we will keep developing them into walking destinations that people love to visit."
