The Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy announced Monday it is accepting public applications for a citizen advisory panel on population policy, ahead of the launch of a new Population Strategy Committee in September.

Any South Korean citizen aged 20 or older with an interest in population issues may apply. Applications are open from Monday through Sunday on the committee's website.

The committee plans to select 100 participants, taking into account age, gender and regional representation.

From the date of appointment through the end of December, panel members will propose and discuss policy ideas on population-related issues — including employment, marriage and caregiving — through both online and in-person activities.

Policy ideas submitted by the panel will be reviewed by relevant government ministries and incorporated into policy improvements. The committee said it aims to include participants from both younger and older generations to ensure a balanced approach that does not favor any single age group.

Kim Jin-o, vice chairman of the committee, said the citizen panel would serve as a platform for direct public participation in population policy design, and expressed hope that it would produce proposals combining young people's firsthand understanding of current realities with the deeper experience of older generations. He added that he hoped citizens would take an active interest and participate to help build a sustainable future for South Korea.
