The Navy said it recovered the body of a sailor who went missing during a patrol mission in the East Sea at around 5:58 a.m. Monday, about 52 kilometers east of Geojin in Gangwon Province.
The sailor had gone missing Sunday from a vessel on patrol, prompting the Navy to immediately deploy ships and aircraft for an overnight search operation.
The Navy has launched an investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident and said it will make every effort to support the bereaved family.
