40 officials from two departments take part
Damyang-gun and Jangseong-gun are broadening cooperation between neighboring local governments through a series of interdepartmental cross-donations under the hometown love giving program.
The Participation and Communication Office of Damyang-gun and the Culture and Education Division of Jangseong-gun joined the mutual donation drive Thursday to promote the hometown love giving program and strengthen inter-regional exchange. Twenty officials from each institution — 40 in total — cross-donated 2 million won ($1,300) each to the other municipality in a show of support for regional development.
After making their donations, Culture and Education Division staff from Jangseong-gun visited Damyang to tour major attractions including Juknokwon bamboo garden and Gwanbangjerim forest. Damyang-gun offers donors a year of free admission to key public tourist sites — including Juknokwon, the Metasequoia Road and Soswaewon garden — and the visiting officials experienced those donor benefits firsthand.
The day before, on June 24, the Tourism Division of Damyang-gun and the Family Happiness Division of Jangseong-gun also carried out a mutual donation. Twenty officials from each side — 40 in total — cross-donated 2 million won each and pledged to work together to promote the hometown love giving program and expand inter-regional cooperation.
Damyang-gun's Tourism Division conducted a mutual donation with Jangseong-gun's Tourism Division last year and has now extended that exchange to Jangseong-gun's Family Happiness Division this year, further broadening the foundation for interdepartmental cooperation.
Im Sun-mi, head of the Participation and Communication Office, said she hopes the values of mutual benefit and cooperation embodied in the hometown love giving program will spread more widely throughout local communities. "We will continue to build on our exchanges with Jangseong-gun across various fields so that we can grow together," she said.
