Seoul's Gangseo-gu said Friday it will conduct a "dementia patient missing-person response drill" near Balsan Station on Tuesday. The district, led by District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon, has the second-largest elderly population in Seoul, with an estimated 9,000 or more residents aged 65 and older living with dementia as of the end of last year.
The drill is designed to test the district's ability to respond effectively to missing dementia patients and strengthen coordination among relevant agencies. It will feature the AI-based rapid missing-person search system Gangseo-gu introduced last year. The system automatically analyzes the physical characteristics of individuals captured on nearby closed-circuit television footage, tracing a missing person's movements based on an appearance description entered by officials.
