North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, again expressing firm support for Moscow's domestic and foreign policies and reaffirming the two countries' alliance.

According to KCNA on Friday, Kim sent the message on the occasion of Russia's national day, conveying "the most ardent congratulations to the fraternal Russian government and people." He said the relationship between North Korea and Russia "is opening a new chapter in history and further strengthening into a sincere and practical comradely relationship of trust and alliance."

Kim went on to say the deepening ties were "a proud achievement gained by the two countries remaining faithful to the obligations of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership and to the ideology of justice," adding that it "demonstrates the correctness of our choice."

He also said that "thoroughly supporting Moscow's domestic and foreign policies and always standing together with the Russian Federation is my and the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's unwavering will and position."

The message was delivered by Sin Hong-chol, North Korea's ambassador to Russia, who met with a Russian Foreign Ministry official, KCNA reported Thursday.

As it did in 2024, North Korea again announced through KCNA the day before Russia's national day that Kim had sent the message and described how it was delivered, then reported its contents the following day.

Russia's national day, June 12, commemorates the adoption of a declaration of sovereignty by the Congress of People's Deputies — the parliament of the Russian Republic within the former Soviet Union.
