Gangwon Province, which has been closely watching — and actively supporting — the global craze for Buldak Bokkeum Myeon sparked by Wonju-based Samyang Foods, is now pushing to take the broader flavors of the region to international markets.

Partnering with KOTRA's Gangwon regional office, the province will operate a joint pavilion at the 2026 Seoul Food — South Korea's largest food industry exhibition — running Tuesday through Friday at KINTEX in Goyang. The province aims to use the event to help local food companies break into overseas markets.

This year's exhibition will draw more than 1,650 companies from 45 countries, showcasing the latest products and technologies in food, foodservice and food tech, with active business consultations between domestic and international buyers.

Ten food companies from Gangwon Province will participate in the joint pavilion, presenting processed foods, health foods and home meal replacement products made with local specialty ingredients to buyers from home and abroad.

During the exhibition, participating companies plan to promote their products and hold export consultations with domestic and international retail buyers and food industry contacts, with the goal of finding new business partners and expanding their market reach.

"We plan to provide comprehensive support — including buyer matching, interpretation and marketing — as well as operating the joint pavilion, to help local food companies generate real export results," said Kim Man-ho, director of the Gangwon Province economic affairs bureau. "We will continue to support domestically focused companies in making the transition to exporters, help early-stage exporters expand into overseas markets, and strengthen their overall export competitiveness."

Seoul Food is the largest food-specialized exhibition in South Korea and one of Asia's leading food industry trade shows, drawing major global food companies and retail buyers from around the world. It is widely regarded as a premier B2B platform where domestic food companies can identify new business partners and secure opportunities to enter international markets.
