A small act of kindness at a Seoul crosswalk has warmed hearts online after a passerby helped an elderly woman with mobility difficulties finish crossing the street even after the pedestrian signal had turned red — and every driver at the intersection waited until she made it to the other side.
A social media user, identified only as A, posted a video and written account Friday of a scene witnessed near Gongdeok Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
"Today at the Gongdeok Station crosswalk, I saw something that moved me deeply," the user wrote, describing what had unfolded.
According to the post, two people crossing the street noticed an elderly woman struggling to walk. One asked the other to go ahead, then approached the woman and walked slowly beside her, matching her pace. The pedestrian signal turned red before they reached the other side, but the person stayed with her and helped her all the way across.
Every car waiting at the intersection held its position throughout. "The light had already turned red, but every vehicle on the road stopped and waited until the grandmother had fully crossed," the user wrote.
"Everyone must have been busy, but I am so grateful to the drivers who waited," the post continued. "Tonight, our neighborhood feels endlessly warm."
Commenters responded with an outpouring of goodwill. "The world is still worth living in," one wrote. "It looks easy, but it's really not," said another. Others said the video made their hearts feel warm.
