Victim had filed repeated reports since September 2024
Police have sought an arrest warrant for a suspect in his 60s accused of killing a woman in her 70s, his former partner, in Seoul's Eunpyeong-gu.
The Eunpyeong Police Station on Friday applied to the Seoul Western District Prosecution Service for an arrest warrant against the suspect, identified only as A, on murder charges.
A is accused of killing the victim, identified as B, at his residence in Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, on Thursday.
A was found unconscious beside B's body after the killing and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being discharged Friday.
During a police probe Friday morning, A largely admitted to the charges, saying he had killed B after an argument broke out during a conversation and that he had taken sleeping pills after the act, according to police.
B had reported A to police four times for stalking since September 2024.
In July, A was arrested on charges including violating a restraining order by visiting B and choking her. Police had sought an arrest warrant at the time, but the prosecution service declined to request one, citing A's health condition and the need for further investigation.
A was subsequently placed under provisional measures including detention at a remand facility and electronic monitoring. The electronic monitoring ended Oct. 22, and the incident occurred about two weeks later.
Police received a missing-person report from B's family at around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, then dispatched officers to A's residence based on mobile phone location data and past report records. Officers found B dead and A unconscious at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the specific circumstances and motive behind the killing.
