Cheong Wa Dae announced Friday that Choi In-ho, president of the Korea Housing Finance Corp. (HUG), has been nominated as the new senior presidential secretary for political affairs. A two-term lawmaker, Choi won his seat in Busan's Saha-gu A district in both the 20th and 21st general elections.

Choi was born in 1966 in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, and served as student body president at Pusan National University.

Choi is widely regarded as a close ally of the late President Roh Moo-hyun and former President Moon Jae-in. During Roh's time as a lawmaker, Choi served as a secretary in his National Assembly office, and later served as deputy presidential spokesperson and presidential secretary for domestic press affairs under the Roh administration.

His predecessor, Hong Ik-pyo, recently submitted his resignation and is expected to report to work for the last time Friday.
