The Korea Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation announced Friday that it had donated 622 bags of rice worth 25 million won ($18,600) to areas hit by heavy rains and to youth independence facilities and child welfare centers in Busan.

As part of the effort, HUG delivered 300 10-kilogram bags of rice to food banks in Geoje and Tongyeong, which were designated special disaster zones following torrential rains in August. The corporation also expanded its outreach by supplying 180 10-kilogram bags to child welfare centers in Busan and 142 2-kilogram bags to youth transitioning out of state care.

The Rural and Fisheries Mutual Cooperation Fund is contributed to by public institutions and companies and operated by the Large and Small Business, Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperation Foundation. HUG has contributed to the fund for six consecutive years since 2021, continuing activities that include expanding purchases of agricultural and fishery products and supporting vulnerable groups in local communities.

HUG President Choi In-ho said the donation carried significant meaning as it advanced community coexistence by expanding sales channels for agricultural and fishery products while supporting vulnerable groups. "We will continue our social contribution activities to help disaster-affected areas recover and to grow together with local communities," he said.

HUG also received a presidential commendation — the only public enterprise to do so — at the 15th Korea Sharing Grand Awards in 2026, in recognition of its contributions to improving residential welfare for vulnerable groups and spreading a culture of sharing in local communities.
