Korea Human Resources Development Service holds AI competition for high school work-study students; Eunpyeong Meditech High and Changwon Mechanical High earn runner-up honors as six teams receive awards
High school students who split their time between classroom study and on-the-job training showed off ideas for putting AI to practical use at work. At a competition organized by the Korea Human Resources Development Service, a team called "INPYUNG CAR" from Inpyung Automobile High School took the top prize.
The Korea Human Resources Development Service held the "AI Skill-Up Lab" competition Friday at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, targeting student workers enrolled in the high school work-study program. The event gave students a platform to share ideas and project results developed through AI study clubs, drawing about 150 attendees including award-winning teams and their schoolmates and teachers.
The top three teams from the document screening round each presented the AI-related challenges they had chosen for their specific jobs and workplaces, and explained how they tackled them. Judges evaluated the presentations and a question-and-answer session, assessing participants on their understanding of AI applications, self-directed learning, creativity and real-world feasibility.
The runner-up prizes went to "AI Smart Manufacturing Explorers" from Eunpyeong Meditech High School and "Auto-Vision AI" from Changwon Mechanical and Technical High School. Honorable mentions went to "Zero-Defect AI" from Busan Electronics Technical High School, "AI Oven Club" from Sangseo High School and "Jeolseminyeo" from Samil High School.
The event also featured a presentation by a work-study program award winner who shared their experience progressing from a high school apprenticeship through the P-TECH track and an advanced career development program.
Korea Human Resources Development Service President Lee Byeong-hun said he hoped the diverse ideas brought forward by the student workers at the competition would spread widely, adding that the agency would take a leading role in supporting students in building their AI capabilities.
