South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute announced Wednesday that they will hold the "2026 Green Asset-Backed Securities Participating Companies Forum" and the "2026 Green Finance Outstanding Companies Awards Ceremony" on Thursday at the Glad Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

Green asset-backed securities are instruments issued by incorporating Korea's green taxonomy into an asset securitization structure that enhances the credit of corporate bonds issued by small and mid-sized enterprises, with the aim of boosting green investment among such firms.

The events are designed to allow participating small and mid-sized companies to discuss the current state of green investment and future policy improvements, and to share the achievements of companies that have contributed to expanding green investment through the issuance of Korean green bonds and green asset-backed securities.

At the forum, participants will share key outcomes of the green asset-backed securities issuance support project and the experiences of participating companies. Building on that, discussions will focus on ways to help small and mid-sized enterprises actively pursue green and transition investment based on Korea's green taxonomy.

At the awards ceremony that follows, Woori Bank and Korea South-East Power (KOEN) — recognized for expanding green investment through the issuance of green bonds under Korea's green taxonomy — along with three small businesses that actively participated in green asset-backed securities issuance, Taesol E&G, Bugyeong Metal and Housesara, will receive ministerial commendations from the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy and citations from the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute.

Seven individuals who contributed to the spread of green investment through strong interest and active participation in green finance will also receive commendations.

Oh Il-young, director general for climate and energy policy at the ministry, said the ministry has been supporting corporate green investment through programs such as the Korean green bond and green asset-backed securities issuance support projects. "The active participation and efforts of companies and financial institutions are translating into tangible green finance results," Oh said. "We will continue to communicate closely with industry and build an investment ecosystem that supports the green transition of the industrial sector."
