A suspect in their 20s caught shoplifting at a convenience store in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul has been sent to prosecutors in detention after police found the suspect had been hiding drugs in nearby apartment complexes — a practice known in South Korea as "throwing-book" drug delivery.

The Seoul Yangcheon Police Station said Wednesday it sent the suspect, identified only as A, to prosecutors in detention on Oct. 26 on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, among other offenses.

A is accused of acting as a "throwing-book" courier, hiding drugs in three apartment buildings in the nearby Mok-dong complex.

Officers responding to a shoplifting report from the convenience store on Oct. 18 discovered drugs among A's belongings during the arrest.

A is believed to have mixed methamphetamine into a beverage at the store before drinking it, then attempted to steal items including a phone battery.

A also tested positive in a preliminary drug screening, police said.
