Golf Herald, a golf specialty magazine, held a charity golf tournament to mark its 35th anniversary and donated proceeds of 5.69 million won ($4,260) to an education project in Africa.

The publication announced Monday that it hosted the 28th Golf Herald Cup Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday at Hwasan Country Club in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

First held at Lakeside Country Club in 1994, the tournament reached its 28th edition this year. The event, organized around the theme of social contribution through golf, drew 48 male and female golfers who competed under the Shin-Perio scoring system.

In the men's division, Han Chang-woo, CEO of Lee & Jung CNT, claimed the top prize for the second consecutive year. Cho Tae-sook, chairperson of the Seoul Tourism Association, won the women's division. Han Yong-oe, chairman of the Inclover Foundation, earned medalist honors — awarded to the player with the lowest stroke count — after carding a round of 73. Han previously served as overall president of the Samsung Culture Foundation.

The event was also attended by prominent figures from various fields, including Lee Sim, co-chair of the National Council of Elders; Park In-ja, chairperson of the Gwanghwamun Culture Forum; Shim In-heung, chairman of Woori Country Group; and architect Hong Tae-seon.

The 5.69 million won raised through the tournament was presented to Global Edu, an education and relief nongovernmental organization. The funds will go toward establishing agricultural schools and supporting education projects in four African countries, including Tanzania. The initiative aims to expand educational opportunities for local residents and build a foundation for community self-reliance.

"This tournament was a meaningful occasion for Golf Herald and golf enthusiasts to come together and put the value of sharing into practice," said Lee Sun-sook, publisher of Golf Herald. "We will continue to pursue a wide range of activities that contribute to society through golf, as well as to the development of golf culture."

Golf Herald has also been carrying out activities to advance the golf industry and broaden its reach as part of its 35th-anniversary year. In April, the magazine published a special anniversary issue examining structural challenges facing the domestic golf industry, including cost burdens and shifting demand. In May, it hosted the 6th Golf Herald & Pico Cup Korea Junior Golf Tournament, which drew 123 junior golfers from across the country, reflecting the publication's commitment to nurturing the next generation of players.

Meanwhile, Golf Herald, founded in April 1991, has been named multiple times to the list of "outstanding content magazines" selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In 2024, it received a merit award at the Korea Golf Association's general assembly in recognition of its contributions to the development of golf culture.
