The Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) has partnered with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation to distribute free boiler exhaust pipe safety devices to public housing residents.

SH announced Friday that it signed an MOU with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation on Thursday to launch a program providing free boiler exhaust pipe detachment-prevention devices.

The agreement aims to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning caused by exhaust pipes becoming dislodged due to vibrations or external impacts during boiler operation.

The two organizations plan to identify public housing units in need of safety management and provide and install the detachment-prevention devices at no cost. The initiative is intended to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and strengthen residential safety.

SH said it plans to carry out this year's distribution program without delay before the winter heating season begins and to expand its preventive residential safety management framework.

SH President Hwang Sang-ha said boiler exhaust pipe detachment can lead to serious accidents, making prevention paramount. "We will work with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation to thoroughly close the gaps in gas safety coverage across public housing," Hwang said.

Meanwhile, SH has also taken proactive steps to address construction site hazards ahead of the seasonal change. Hwang and a site inspection team visited six major construction sites on Tuesday and Wednesday to assess safety management conditions.
