19 programs across 4 categories to run at Wangsimni Square on Saturday under the theme 'Early Winter'
Seoul's Seongdong-gu will hold the 13th Seongdong Lifestyle Day at the north end of Wangsimni Square on Saturday, offering residents a range of everyday services and a chance to get a head start on winter preparations.
Running from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the theme "Early Winter," the event will bring together practical household services, kimchi-season preparation booths and year-end festivities in one place. The program spans 19 activities across four categories: lifestyle services, hands-on experiences, health and family entertainment.
The lifestyle services section will cover knife sharpening, umbrella and eyeglass repairs, bicycle maintenance and self-service steam cleaning, and free collection of discarded umbrellas — giving residents an easy way to get everyday items fixed or serviced.
The hands-on experiences section will feature potted plant workshops, a furniture repair workshop, photo-magnet making, and sales of eco-friendly soap and handkerchiefs. A new highlight is a pre-order booth for salted cabbage from Goesan-gun in North Chungcheong Province — Seongdong-gu's sister city — to help residents stock up ahead of kimchi-making season.
The health section will debut brain health and memory screenings alongside dementia-prevention programs aimed at middle-aged and older residents. A "mobile safety experience" will also be on hand, offering virtual reality simulations of crowd emergencies and hands-on fire extinguisher training.
The family entertainment section will feature performances including a saxophone ensemble, a bubble show, balloon mime and shuffle dance, along with photo opportunities with Tangja, a large inflatable bear mascot. Augmented reality coloring activities, crunchy slime making and Christmas ornament crafting will round out the hands-on offerings, while food stalls serving mulled wine and dalgona will add to the winter and year-end atmosphere.
The event is open to all Seongdong-gu residents free of charge, though some programs are ticketed or available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for knife sharpening and bicycle and umbrella repair services will close at 1:30 p.m. on the day to ensure smooth operations.
"I hope residents will come to Wangsimni Square to take advantage of practical lifestyle services and enjoy a variety of winter programs before the cold season truly sets in," District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa said. "We will continue working to resolve the small inconveniences of daily life one by one, so that residents can feel real change in their everyday lives."
