The Age-Friendly Campus Center (G-AFC Center) at Gyeonguk National University's North Gyeongsang Province campus co-hosted an intergenerational festival with the Yecheon-gun chapter of the Korea Senior Citizens Association on Wednesday at the Yecheon-gun Culture and Sports Center. The event, titled "G-Generational Campus — A Festival Where Seniors and Youth Come Together," marked the 30th National Senior Citizens' Day.
About 1,500 people attended, including Yecheon-gun Mayor An Byeong-yun, Vice President for Public Affairs Kim Jong-su, Gyeonguk National University ANCHOR Project Director Im U-taek, university students and local senior residents.
The program featured a commemorative ceremony followed by intergenerational activities.
Participants took part in a range of hands-on experiences — school uniform photo shoots, a traditional Korean target game called hangung, rubber-shoe archery and a snack-eating relay — alongside celebratory performances. University students volunteered and helped run the event, interacting with senior attendees throughout the day.
Gyeonguk National University has been developing an age-friendly campus at its Yecheon campus since 2025. Through the G-AFC Center, it provides tailored exercise programs, nutrition and dietary management, and a senior humanities academy to support the health and lifelong learning of elderly residents in the region.
Im Jin-seop, director of the G-AFC Center, said the age-friendly campus is "a project where seniors and youth naturally mingle and communicate," adding that he plans to grow the G-Generational Campus event into an annual intergenerational gathering for Yecheon.
Meanwhile, through the North Gyeongsang Province ANCHOR project, Gyeonguk National University is investing 2.5 billion won ($1.86 million) in government subsidies over five years starting this year to build out the age-friendly campus. The university is also pursuing membership in an international age-friendly university network.
