OTT platform Tving said Wednesday it has appointed Kook Tae-ho as its chief information security officer (CISO) to strengthen its data protection capabilities.
Kook, born in 1978, holds a degree in business administration from Hongik University. He has spent more than two decades handling information security and personal data protection across a range of organizations, including large conglomerates, platform and gaming companies, and startups.
Tving said Kook brings experience building security organizations and responding to a wide range of threats, including ransomware, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, insider data leaks and cloud breaches.
The appointment comes after Tving suffered a personal data breach last May. A joint government-private sector investigation found that personal information from about 39.54 million accounts — including those of active, dormant and withdrawn members — had been exposed. Tving is accepting compensation claims from affected users through Oct. 30.
The Personal Information Protection Commission plans to complete its disciplinary proceedings against Tving over the breach before the end of the year. Tving Chief Executive Choi Ju-hee appeared before the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee national audit on Tuesday and said the company had "continuously invested in security, but it seems we did not prioritize it enough to recognize whether the level was sufficient."
