The 3rd Pildong Movie Concert & Chungmuro Literary Film Festival comes to the Pildong area Thursday, featuring live jazz performances and commentary on film scores by the Clesia Ensemble.
Literature, film and music will converge in the alleys of Pildong and along Chungmuro — the historic heart of Korean cinema — at the foot of Namsan.
Seoul's Jung-gu said the 3rd Pildong Movie Concert & Chungmuro Literary Film Festival will be held Thursday in the Pildong area.
Now in its third year, the event is a community-driven cultural festival planned and produced by the Pildong Residents' Autonomy Committee. This edition adds a literary dimension to the existing movie concert format, deepening the cultural appeal of the Chungmuro district.
The main stage, the Pildong Movie Concert, will run from 5 p.m. at Lavidus (7 Pildong-ro 5-gil), a venue on the path connecting Chungmuro to Namsan. Audiences can enjoy live jazz renditions of film scores from literary adaptations such as "Gone with the Wind" and "Pride and Prejudice," performed by the Clesia Ensemble.
Pildong Residents' Autonomy Committee member Ju Hui-hyeon will host the concert, sharing behind-the-scenes stories about each film to deepen audience engagement. Residents can unwind on an autumn evening, sharing emotions through beloved classics and their melodies.
Earlier in the day, the Chungmuro Literary Film Festival will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Art Space Noh (84-34 Pildong 2-ga), screening films adapted from notable literary works from Korea, China and Japan, including an adaptation of writer Ju Won-gyu's "A Christmas Carol."
Ju will then take the stage as a critic to offer in-depth commentary, giving residents with an interest in culture and the arts a chance to engage with the works from a fresh perspective. The event is open to all who love film and music, with free admission on the day.
Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-sung said the festival, made with residents' love, "will serve as a special pause in the midst of busy daily life," adding, "Please come with your family and neighbors and enjoy the romance of an autumn night filled with jazz and classical music."
