Gangneung is set to host seven festivals in October alone — a hanok village bread festival at Ojukheon, the Haslla International Art Festival at Gangneung Arts Center, a noodle festival on Wolhwa Street, the ITS World Congress and K-Drone Festival at Olympic Park, and the Anmok Gangneung Coffee Festival — and a Wellness Day event will open the season.

The day is designed as a warm-up for the body and mind before the full run of festivities. With so much on offer, spending October living or workcationing in Gangneung may be the surest way to guarantee quality of life.

The city will hold Gangneung Wellness Day on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the birthplace of Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon.

Organized with several corporations and working groups, the event aims to invigorate wellness tourism by drawing on Gangneung's rich natural, cultural and experiential resources, and to spread the city's image as a destination for healing and recharging.

Key programs include forest healing yoga and singing bowl meditation — both available to pre-registered participants — designed to help visitors find calm in nature.

Four themed experience booths will also be open to all visitors: a drip coffee tasting, a gemstone color therapy session, an archery experience, and a tasting of Gangneung's traditional hangwa confections. The booths are intended to let visitors engage with Gangneung's distinctive wellness offerings through all five senses.

"Gangneung Wellness Day is an event we prepared so that people can enjoy Gangneung's beautiful nature, culture and experiential resources with all five senses and find rest in their daily lives," said Bae Gwang-sik, head of the tourism policy division. "We will continue working to promote wellness tourism and build Gangneung into a city where people can heal through all five senses."
