Prosecutors declined to indict former Dongduk Women's University President Kim Myung-ae, who had faced allegations of embezzling school funds.
The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors Office cleared Kim of embezzlement and violations of the Private School Act on Sept. 18, citing insufficient evidence, according to Yonhap.
The Women's Party had filed a police complaint in December 2024 against Kim and six other university officials — including Dongduk Foundation Chairman Jo Won-young and General Affairs Director Jo Jin-wan — on charges including embezzlement of school funds.
Kim was accused of using school operating funds to cover legal consulting and litigation costs unrelated to education. School operating funds are financed through tuition and donations.
Police referred Kim to prosecutors without detention last November, while clearing the remaining six officials of any wrongdoing.
When the controversy first emerged, the university said the funds had been used for operational and administrative purposes and denied that Kim had used them for personal benefit.
