Yongsan-gu in Seoul has completed a renovation of the main theater Mir and the small theater Garam at Yongsan Arts Hall (150 Noksapyeong-daero), marking the venue's 15th anniversary with a safer and more comfortable performance environment, the district announced Friday.

The project focused on upgrading aging facilities while expanding amenities for people with disabilities and mobility challenges, with the goal of creating a cultural space accessible to all. Work carried out since the beginning of the year covered lighting in both theaters and the main stage, among other aging infrastructure.

Mir, the main theater with 787 seats, underwent comprehensive improvements: floor finishing materials were replaced, audience seating was renewed, the stage floor was replaced, entrance doors were replaced, audience area railings were replaced, indirect lighting was installed along walkways, and accessibility facilities for people with disabilities were expanded.

Garam, the small theater with 304 seats, had its aging lighting system replaced to ensure audience safety. Facility maintenance work was also carried out to support stable performance operations.

The renovation paid particular attention to improving access for people with mobility difficulties and disabilities. Wheelchair spaces in the main theater were reconfigured to allow more room, and a convertible wheelchair-lift staircase was installed in the small theater, where stage access had previously been difficult for wheelchair users.

The total project cost came to 2.117 billion won ($1.56 million). A completion ceremony will be held in the Mir lobby on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Yongsan Arts Hall is a performance and cultural arts venue in Itaewon-dong, operating as a concert hall and multipurpose cultural facility for local residents and Seoul citizens. It opened in 2010.

"Through this renovation, we have created a safer and more comfortable performance environment, and we will continue to develop this space so that all residents can visit with ease and enjoy high-quality culture and the arts," Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae said.
