Move aims to bolster stability ahead of spin-off; tech, finance and HR TFs activated
Kim Do-young, CEO-designate of Kakao X, will serve as co-chair of the CA Council, Kakao's top decision-making body. He will lead key group-level decisions alongside Kakao Chair Jung Shin-a ahead of the company's planned spin-off.
Kakao said Monday it held a group council meeting at which the CEOs of its affiliate companies resolved to appoint Kim as co-chair of the CA Council.
Kim will work with Jung to handle major decisions until the spin-off is completed, taking on a role focused on improving group-wide coordination and execution.
Kakao said the decision was made to strengthen organizational stability ahead of its planned split into two separate entities — Kakao AI and Kakao X.
"The co-chair structure is intended to ensure continuity and systematic execution at the group level during this critical transition ahead of the spin-off," a Kakao official said. "Kakao will closely manage the split preparation process through sector-specific TFs and do its utmost to ensure a stable transition."
Kakao has set up TFs covering key divisions — including technology, finance and human resources — to review operational tasks in preparation for the spin-off. The company is also holding in-person briefing sessions for employees and operating a dedicated channel for ongoing inquiries to keep staff informed throughout the process.
Meanwhile, Kakao plans to hold an extraordinary shareholder meeting on Dec. 17 and complete the spin-off on Jan. 1 next year. It will then pursue the relisting of Kakao AI and the transfer listing of Kakao X on Jan. 27 of the same month.
