The district will run a special cleanup operation from Monday through Sept. 29 for the Chuseok holiday period, with a cleanup command center and rapid-response teams deployed Wednesday through Saturday to minimize resident inconvenience.
Songpa-gu in Seoul will roll out a comprehensive Chuseok holiday cleanup plan from Monday through Sept. 29, aiming to keep the district clean and comfortable for residents during the holiday period.
The district said it will implement a special cleanup program to swiftly collect household waste generated before and after the holiday and respond to any sanitation-related complaints so residents can enjoy a pleasant Chuseok.
The plan kicks off with a pre-holiday "Chuseok Big Cleanup" on Monday and Tuesday. Community centers in each neighborhood will carry out voluntary environmental cleanup activities in areas prone to littering, working alongside civic organizations, resident volunteer groups and other volunteers. Major roads and thoroughfares heavily used by holiday travelers will receive particular attention.
During the Chuseok holiday period — Wednesday through Saturday — the district will operate a cleanup command center to handle sanitation complaints in real time and guide residents on waste disposal schedules. An emergency street-cleaning operation will run continuously, with rapid-response teams deployed to collect household waste and address illegal dumping reports.
The district is also stepping up waste disposal guidance to keep Songpa-gu clean throughout the holiday. Because incineration facilities will be closed, all waste disposal — including standard garbage bags, food waste, recyclables and bulky items — will be prohibited Wednesday through Saturday. Residents in areas designated for Monday, Wednesday and Friday collection may dispose of waste by Sept. 23, while those in Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday collection areas may do so from 6 p.m. Saturday onward.
On Monday, the district plans to mobilize all available cleanup personnel and equipment to collect the backlog of waste that accumulated during the holiday. Intensive street cleaning will also be carried out to minimize any gaps in sanitation service over the break.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said the district would maintain emergency staffing throughout the holiday, operating the cleanup command center and rapid-response teams to ensure residents face no inconvenience. "However, we ask all residents and businesses to refrain from disposing of waste during the Chuseok holiday and to cooperate actively," he added.
