Running Monday through Sunday, the contactless walking challenge uses the 'Sonmok Doctor 9988' app — participants who average 5,000 steps a day can enter a draw for gift vouchers, with 150 winners selected.
The Seongbuk-gu Dementia Care Center is hosting the "2026 One Heart Dementia Prevention Seongbuk Walking Event" from Monday through Sunday to promote residents' physical and cognitive health and raise awareness about dementia prevention.
The event is designed to help residents build healthy lifestyle habits through walking — an activity anyone can easily incorporate into daily life — while encouraging greater interest and participation in dementia prevention.
The event runs in a contactless format using "Sonmok Doctor 9988" (손목닥터 9988), Seoul Metropolitan Government's healthcare platform app. Participants set a personal goal of averaging at least 5,000 steps a day during the event period and log their activity at their own pace.
Those who meet the step goal can submit their step-count records for verification via a QR code from Sept. 20 through Sept. 22. Seongbuk-gu will draw 150 names from verified participants and award each winner a gift voucher, encouraging residents to maintain their health routines.
"Walking is the most effective health habit anyone can start without any burden," Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said. "I hope this walking event gives many residents a chance to take care of their health and reflect on the importance of dementia prevention. We will continue to expand a wide range of dementia prevention and management programs to support our residents' healthy aging."
The Seongbuk-gu Dementia Care Center provides comprehensive public health and welfare services, including early dementia screening, prevention education, awareness campaigns, dementia-friendly village programs, and support for caregiving supplies and treatment costs. Residents can contact the center directly for more information.
