Seoul's Gangseo-gu district office is launching a conversational AI chatbot service to help residents quickly find the administrative information they need.

Residents had long faced the inconvenience of browsing through multiple bulletin boards on the district website to track down specific information. The new system is designed to dramatically reduce those search steps and improve access to public services.

The AI chatbot draws on administrative data accumulated across 10 affiliated websites, including the main Gangseo-gu site, the Open District Mayor's Office and the public health center. It operates on retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology, a conversational AI framework that analyzes a user's question and delivers the most relevant response.

The chatbot covers the full range of district services — from general civil affairs such as passports, taxes and real estate to public notices, job listings, welfare and health information. It also provides a wide array of everyday content directly relevant to residents, including children's events, waste disposal guidelines and apartment complex information.

The service goes beyond simple keyword searches: users can ask questions in natural, conversational language and receive tailored answers. Each response comes with source citations to enhance accuracy and reliability.

Multilingual support is also built in, broadening access for foreign residents and other groups with diverse language needs.

Using the chatbot requires no membership or login. Residents simply click the icon of the district's mascot character "Saeromi," located in the lower right corner of the Gangseo-gu website. The service is available around the clock on both desktop and mobile devices.

District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said the chatbot would allow residents to find information quickly and easily, without navigating complicated menus. "We will continue to actively integrate digital technology into public administration and expand smart services that residents can truly feel the benefit of," he said.
