AI startup Anthropic has signed computing capacity contracts totaling $517 billion over the past 11 months, according to a new analysis.

The Information reported Sunday (local time) that, based on company announcements and contract details, Anthropic secured at least 14.8 GW of additional computing capacity over the 11-month period — on top of the 1 to 2 GW it had already locked in before October last year.

The figure far exceeds the $180 billion in server leasing costs through 2029 that Anthropic presented to investors in December last year.

Investors are closely watching how reliably Anthropic can secure the computing resources seen as central to future AI model competition, as the company is frequently cited as a candidate for one of the largest initial public offerings in history.

Anthropic has never publicly disclosed its total computing capacity or the scale of related spending.

Anthropic's annualized sales reached $65 billion as of July, surpassing OpenAI's $40 billion, but the company still trails OpenAI in the race to secure computing resources — OpenAI plans to spend up to $750 billion on 30 GW of capacity by 2030.

As a result, Anthropic has made securing computing resources its top priority over the past year.

The largest single deal struck over the past 11 months is an 11 GW contract with Amazon and Google — both early Anthropic investors — worth more than $300 billion over 10 years.

Other deals include a $30 billion agreement signed in November last year to lease 1 GW of Microsoft Azure server capacity, and a contract with SpaceX signed in May worth up to $45 billion — structured as monthly payments of $1.25 billion through 2029.

Last month, Anthropic signed an $80 billion, six-year deal with startups Lambda and Enskale covering 460 MW of capacity.

The company has also committed $50 billion with cloud startup FluidStack to build its own data centers in Texas and New York, and has signed separate agreements to purchase Google tensor processing units from Broadcom and chips from AMD for those facilities.
