The Korea Real Estate Board said Monday it has published a book titled "Guide to Public Architecture Design Competitions," which systematically compiles the operational procedures and practical know-how for running public architecture design competitions.

Since being designated as the Public Architecture Support Center by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March 2025, the Korea Real Estate Board has managed the entire design competition process on behalf of local governments and public institutions that lack the capacity to run such competitions independently — handling announcements, submission intake, judging and disclosure of results in a transparent manner.

In the year since receiving that designation, the board has managed about 40 design competitions, helping ease the administrative burden on local governments and public institutions while improving fairness and professionalism.

The publication was produced to share operational procedures and practical expertise, and to help foster a fair and transparent environment for design competitions.

The book covers an introduction to the Public Architecture Support Center, a record of design competition operations, a showcase of winning and prize-winning entries, and interviews with those involved. It documents in detail the full process of running a design competition, centered on the Gimcheon Agricultural Workers' Dormitory Construction Project, which the board managed directly — making it a practical reference guide that public institution staff can use in their day-to-day work.

The publication is available as a free download from the Public Architecture Support Center's website.

Korea Real Estate Board President Lee Heon-uk said he hopes the guide will serve as a practical reference for institutions and officials preparing to hold public architecture design competitions, contributing to the spread of a fair and transparent competition culture. "We will continue to draw on our accumulated expertise and hands-on experience to support public institutions in running design competitions, and will do our best to raise the quality of public architecture and the credibility of the design competition system," he said.

Meanwhile, the Korea Real Estate Board has moved to strengthen cooperation with financial institutions to develop ESG (environmental, social and governance) financial products using building energy data.
