The Daegu Happiness Foundation announced Wednesday that it has provided customized transportation support to ease the financial and logistical burden on families of leukemia and childhood cancer patients.

The foundation distributed 200 dedicated transportation cards — two per household — to 100 families, with each card valued at 100,000 won ($73), for a combined total of 20 million won.

Funding for the project came from the "Da Hamkke Daeguro (No)" transportation welfare fund, a public-private initiative jointly run by the Daegu city government, iM U-Pay and the Daegu Community Chest of Korea.

Acting President Choi Hee-jae said she hoped the support would offer "genuine comfort and practical help, however small, to patients and caregivers enduring physical and financial hardship from frequent hospital visits and grueling treatment."
