Senior Iranian security and diplomatic officials have condemned a US airstrike on a wedding venue in southern Iran that caused multiple casualties, calling it a "war crime" and warning of a strong response through a new strategy.

According to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency on Wednesday (local time), Mohsen Rezaei, secretary-general of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, posted on X that Iran's new military and diplomatic strategy would destroy the foundations of its enemies.

"No matter how much you struggle, you will never escape the depths of the hell you have created for yourselves," Rezaei wrote. "You will soon see Iran's new strategy on the battlefield, in the diplomatic arena, and in countering economic blockades thoroughly demolish your foundations."

Rezaei did not elaborate on the specifics of the new strategy.

US forces struck more than 100 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets, primarily in southern Iran, on Tuesday.

During the airstrikes, a shell struck a home where a wedding was being held in Sirik, Hormozgan Province in southern Iran, causing multiple casualties.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei also posted on X, saying "the truth of this illegal 'war of choice' and the true face of its war crimes lie in Sirik," and called the strike "a desperate act by the United States to conceal its own failures."

Baghaei said the truth "is not in AI-generated videos portraying American officials as victorious heroes."

He further criticized the United States by quoting a passage from "The Things They Carried," a novel by American author Tim O'Brien about the Vietnam War: "A true war story is never moral. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie."
