Sinan-gun has selected one candidate in its "senior doctor" hiring drive, launched to fill gaps in medical care caused by a declining number of public health physicians.
According to Sinan-gun on Wednesday, the recruitment was designed to bring retired and senior physicians with extensive clinical experience into the field, improving residents' access to medical care and ensuring stable health services across the county.
Six specialists applied, and the successful candidate was chosen through document screening and interviews that assessed clinical experience and the ability to practice in island communities. The hire will work for one year beginning Oct. 1, receiving a pre-tax monthly salary of 33 million won ($24,100) based on a five-day workweek.
The doctor's primary duties will include rotating visits to Sinan-gun's public health centers and branch clinics to provide general consultations, pre-vaccination screenings and medical certification services.
In October, the focus will be on vaccinations to meet seasonal demand. From November, the doctor will begin regular rotating visits to health facilities that currently lack a public health physician.
"We expect the addition of a senior doctor with extensive clinical experience to make a significant contribution to improving residents' health and closing gaps in medical care," a Sinan-gun official said. "We will continue to strengthen health and medical infrastructure so that residents in underserved areas can receive uninterrupted medical services."
Meanwhile, Sinan-gun plans to link the senior doctor's rotating visits with a remote consultation system to further improve access to care for residents in medically underserved areas.
