Korea Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation has received a commendation from the Busan Metropolitan City mayor in recognition of its efforts to create a gender-equal workplace and support work-family balance.

HUG announced Wednesday that it was named a Model Institution for Gender-Equal Employment at the Busan Gender Equality Week ceremony held Tuesday.

Busan selects companies and institutions each year that have led the way in guaranteeing equal employment opportunities, protecting maternity and paternity rights, and supporting work-family balance. HUG was the only public institution that relocated to Busan to make this year's list, recognized for its comprehensive gender equality policy initiatives.

Through blind hiring practices, HUG has steadily increased the share of women among new recruits — from 37.5 percent (21 people) in 2024 to 45.8 percent (38 people) in 2025. Alongside this, the corporation has run diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) education programs and women's leadership courses to foster a more inclusive organizational culture.

HUG has also strengthened institutional support to ease the burden of child-rearing. The corporation operates flexible attendance policies including parental leave, and has expanded its on-site childcare center to help employees focus at work and reduce childcare responsibilities — part of a broader set of maternity and parental protection measures in operation.

"This award is the fruit of an organizational culture that all of our members have built together," HUG President Choi In-ho said. "We will continue to be a public institution that leads a work-family balance culture where anyone, regardless of gender, can make full use of their abilities."

Meanwhile, HUG has been running a whistleblower reward program since last month aimed at rooting out corrupt practices and spreading a culture of integrity.
