Dyson has announced its first oral care product, the Dyson Camjet — a device that combines an electric toothbrush and a water flosser and uses an AI camera system to remove plaque that is not visible to the naked eye.

The company unveiled the Camjet in Paris on Tuesday (local time).

The launch is the result of six years of research involving 661 engineers. Dyson filed 38 patents in the course of development.

At the unveiling, founder and chief engineer James Dyson said many people understand the importance of flossing but skip it because they find interdental cleaning tedious and time-consuming. "The Dyson Camjet combines a camera, machine learning, fluid dynamics, advanced brushing technology and Wi-Fi to offer a new way to protect oral health," he said.

The core technology enabling the device to clean hard-to-see areas is the Gap Optical Targeting camera system, driven by an AI machine learning algorithm. The Camjet was trained on 470,000 tooth images during development. A 100,000-pixel macro-lens camera analyzes 28 images per second during cleaning and directs a jet of liquid stored in the handle precisely at target points between teeth.

The device also features a three-dimensional sonic brush head that covers a wider surface area of the teeth. The dual-bristle brush head vibrates each section of the bristles independently for precise plaque removal. The sonic motor vibrates 245 times per second.

The Camjet supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Its built-in camera delivers high-definition, endoscope-level imaging that users can view in real time through the live view function in the MyDyson app. To protect privacy, the camera activates only during cleaning sessions, and no images are stored on the device or in the cloud.

The device comes with a 3-in-1 refill dock that, with a single button press, refills the toothbrush tank, stores the device and charges it at the same time.

The Dyson Camjet is available in two colors — Ceramic Pink and Ceramic Ultra Blue — and pre-orders opened Tuesday through Dyson's official website and online channels.
