Park Seung-jik, a three-term provincial lawmaker representing Gyeongju District 5, has been elected People Power Party floor leader of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly for the first half of the 13th council term.

According to the provincial assembly, Park filed as the sole candidate during the floor leader candidate registration period on Tuesday and was unanimously endorsed at a general assembly meeting without a vote, as permitted under Article 19 of the PPP caucus rules governing the selection of floor leaders, assembly speaker and deputy speaker candidates, and standing committee chair candidates when only one candidate is registered.

The floor leader represents the caucus, consulting with the assembly speaker on legislative operations in accordance with relevant ordinances, and holds the highest authority and responsibility for party management within the caucus. The term runs for two years.

The first-half floor leadership team consists of nine members, including Park.

Yeon Gyu-sik (Pohang District 4) was named senior deputy floor leader, with Choi Byeong-uk (Yecheon District 2) and Do Hui-jae (Seongju) serving as deputy floor leaders. Ma Jeong-yeon (proportional representation) was appointed spokesperson.

Lee Dong-hyeop (Gyeongju District 4) was named floor whip, Baek Un-seong (Gyeongsan District 1) deputy floor whip, Yun Jong-ho (Gumi District 9) policy committee chair, and Jang Myeong-su (Pohang District 2) deputy policy committee chair.

"I will unite the will of our 58 fellow lawmakers to overcome the challenges before us and build a strong, trusted caucus that the people of this province can rely on," Park said. "I will always remain humble, communicate closely with my colleagues, and lead by example as a floor leader who gets out and works."
