The 52nd Seoul Independent Film Festival, set to open Sept. 11, has broken its own all-time submission record for the second consecutive year.

The festival announced Tuesday that 1,917 works were submitted for this year's edition — 1,715 short films and 202 feature-length films — surpassing the previous record of 1,805 entries set last year.

The festival accepted submissions in both short and feature categories from July through August. Eligible works included fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films in any format completed after August 2025.

Among short film submissions, fiction led with 1,321 entries, followed by animation with 181, documentary with 123, experimental with 74 and other formats with 16.

In the feature category, fiction accounted for 121 entries, documentary for 72, animation for 4, and experimental and other formats for 5.

"This year saw an increase in submissions across every genre compared to last year, and we look forward to presenting a diverse range of distinctive works at the 52nd Seoul Independent Film Festival," the festival said.

Submissions will go through a preliminary screening process, with official selections to be announced on the festival's website in October. The festival will run for 10 days from Nov. 25 to Dec. 4 at CGV Apgujeong and surrounding venues.
