The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee confirmed Monday that it would not hold a plenary session scheduled for that day.

Committee Chair Seo Yeong-gyo said in a press notice that the planned plenary session for an emergency hearing on Supreme Court-related matters would not take place out of respect for Chief Justice Jo Hee-dae, whose father had died.

Seo said the committee's budget and settlement subcommittee is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a full plenary session at 4 p.m. She added that the committee would also try to hold elections for the committee's floor leader and the chair of Bill Review Subcommittee No. 1 if circumstances allow.

"We offer our sincere condolences and extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family," she said. The committee had originally planned to hold an emergency hearing that afternoon on Chief Justice Jo's written recommendation of Supreme Court justices, as well as the referral to the full bench of the appeals in the insurrection cases against former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Minister of Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min on charges of playing a key role in the insurrection.
