Busan will hold the 5th One Earth Film Festival at the Busan Cinema Center for five days from Thursday through Monday, the city announced Monday.

Themed "Earth Again, Earth and Us," the festival is organized by the Natural Rights Foundation and the Busan Cinema Center, with support from the city and the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy.

The One Earth Film Festival has been held annually since 2022 to raise awareness of the climate crisis and encourage everyday environmental action. This year's program includes an environmental film festival, video and poster competitions, a conference, and environmental exhibitions and hands-on activities. The opening ceremony will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Busan Cinema Center's outdoor theater.

The environmental film festival will screen 58 films from 29 countries on the theme of the climate crisis. The opening film, "Song of Trees," directed by Jin Jae-woon, explores how humans and nature can reconnect — not through abstract discourse, but through the act of planting and tending trees.

The video and poster competitions will feature screenings and exhibitions of selected entries, along with an awards ceremony. The video competition drew 2,764 entries from 148 countries; 18 finalists will be screened during the festival. The poster competition received 74 entries in total, and 16 finalists will be displayed in an exhibition.

The One Earth Conference will run for three days, from Friday through Sunday, at the Busan Cinema Center's Cinematheque and other venues. Marking the festival's fifth anniversary, five separate conferences will extend the environmental issues raised in the films into real-world discussion and explore directions for change.

An environmental exhibition and hands-on activity program open to the public will also run Thursday through Monday on the sixth floor of the Busan Cinema Center. Visitors can take part in an upcycled keyring workshop, explore an AI-powered Earth experience, and view winning entries from the poster competition, among other programs.

Tickets for festival screenings can be purchased through the One Earth Film Festival website (blueplanet.or.kr) or on-site. Full program details are also available on the website.
