Intergenerational, nature-friendly designs elevate residential spaces
Hoban Construction has earned back-to-back wins at domestic and international design competitions, cementing its reputation for landscape design in apartment complexes.
The company said Monday that all three of its landscape installations entered in the K-Design Award 2026 received the Winner distinction in the landscape category. One of the works also earned a Good Design designation in the space and environmental design category at the 2026 Good Design Korea awards.
The K-Design Award winners are the Floating House (THE FLOATING HOUSE), a water-feature rest pavilion, and the Golden Thread (THE GOLDEN THREAD), a play facility — both at Hoban Summit La Première in Block A13 of the Osan Segyo 2 development — along with the Circle Playground (CIRCLE PLAYGROUND), a play facility at Hoban Summit in Block B-2 of the Hwaseong Bibong development. The Floating House also received the Good Design Korea recognition in the space and environmental design category.
The Floating House is a water-feature rest facility that combines water, greenery and architecture. Designed to appear as though it floats on the water's surface, it features foldable opening doors that connect the interior and exterior spaces with the surrounding landscape. Sound-absorbing ceilings, linear lighting and communal tables are also incorporated.
The Golden Thread, in the same complex, is an intergenerational play and rest space built around the concept of "a golden thread weaving generations and spaces together." Water play areas, a children's playground, a family rest zone and senior fitness facilities are linked by a single circulation path, allowing residents of all ages to use the space together.
The Circle Playground at Hoban Summit in Hwaseong Bibong is a nature-friendly play space designed so that existing trees and play structures blend together like a single forest. The roofless design uses timber structures and natural materials, letting residents experience shade, wind and sunlight within the play area itself.
"These awards recognize the design competitiveness we have built by developing apartment landscaping beyond simple amenities into differentiated lifestyle spaces," a Hoban Construction official said. "We will continue to expand landscape spaces that blend naturally into the daily lives of residents."
