New system meets new-build standards even in thin-floor structures

Posco E&C said Monday it has developed AnwoollimR, a floor-noise reduction technology designed exclusively for apartment remodeling projects, and become the first company in South Korea to receive certification under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's post-construction floor-noise verification regime.

The technology meets the same inter-floor noise standards required of new-build apartments while also increasing interior ceiling height. The post-construction verification regime measures actual on-site performance after construction is complete, making it a stricter standard than design-stage certification. Posco E&C said it developed the technology to address floor noise — a key driver of residential satisfaction — even in remodeling projects, where no legal obligation to meet such standards currently exists.

Remodeled apartments are often more vulnerable to inter-floor noise because they retain existing structural elements, leaving floors thinner than those in new construction. AnwoollimR improves both the floor and ceiling structures simultaneously to reduce noise effectively while minimizing the loss of usable space.

Performance tests conducted by an accredited testing body showed the technology met the same legal standards as new-build apartments for both heavy-impact noise — such as children running or walking, rated at level 3 — and light-impact noise from objects like toys falling, rated at level 1. For heavy-impact noise ratings, a lower number indicates a quieter result.

With AnwoollimR, Posco E&C said it has completed a floor-noise reduction technology portfolio covering both new construction and remodeling projects.

"AnwoollimR minimizes ceiling height loss while reducing inter-floor noise, making it a technology that can raise both residential satisfaction and asset value in remodeled housing," a Posco E&C official said. "Improving the residential quality of aging apartment complexes is an important social challenge, and we will continue developing effective technologies to set new standards for housing quality in South Korea."
