Active-duty Navy member; only his vehicle found near port
Police and fire department officials are in their second day of searching for a man in his 20s who has been out of contact with his family since leaving his quarters on Jeju Island. The missing man is an active-duty Navy sailor stationed on the island.
According to the Seogwipo Police Station and the Jeju Island Fire and Safety Headquarters, a report was filed with police at around 2:10 p.m. Friday stating that a son working in Jeju appeared to have gone fishing but could not be reached.
Police traced the missing man's mobile phone location data and found signs he had been in the coastal area of Haye-dong, Seogwipo. Police, fire department personnel and military units have deployed search drones and rescue dogs as the search entered its second day.
During the search, the man's vehicle was found near Haye Port in Seogwipo with no sign of him inside. He had been living in quarters at the Jeju Naval Base, and closed-circuit television footage from the area reportedly captured him leaving the quarters with fishing gear Thursday morning, consistent with his family's account.
